5 Day AK Train, Aurora, Hot Springs, Mushing tour $2500
Northern Sun Tours is hosting a 5 day tour to the heart of the interior winter for a stunning, once in a lifetime northern lights experience. This tour includes 1 train ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks, 2 days of XC skiing, a night and day at Chena Hot Springs resort and additional add ons that include mushing under the Aurora Borealis. This tour takes you off the beaten path by staying in a rustic cabin located in the heart of the Chena Recreation Area where we will ski or snowshoe during the day and view the Aurora Borealis in the evening. The tour ends with a day and night at Chena Hot Springs resort soaking in the 106 degree (F) water while watching the Aurora dance above you.
This tour kicks off with travel from Anchorage to Fairbanks where you will experience the remarkable winter landscape from the viewing cars of the famous Alaskan Railroad. This all day rail tour takes you through the stunning Alaskan Range, home to the Denali massif. Your guide will pick you up at the train station and your real adventure will begin. That evening we will stay at a traditional hotel in Fairbanks before we head to the Chena Recreation Area the next morning.
This tour is for those who desire both a rustic winter cabin experience in the heart of the Chena River Recreation Area and the luxury of Chena Hot Springs. Cold temperatures (-40 F) will keep us busy with XC and Snowshoe tours. Instruction will be provided by expert guides on both beginner and intermediate terrain throughout the Chena Rec Area. Your guides will coach you on proper preparation for extreme cold and there will be many warming breaks as we tour through this stunning winter landscape. Next we switch gears from the rustic cabins to the lodge at Chena Hot Springs where participants will be provided access to the hot springs tubs and for additional costs, day trip options that include: Sled Dog Day Tour, Snowmachine Tour, Geothermal Tour, Aurora Ice Museum. On the last and final day of the tour participants will have the option of flying back to Anchorage for an additional cost.
